Freehold Communities has announced that its two South Florida communities have won three of the top awards – the Grand Awards – from the annual Aurora competition sponsored by the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) and the Southeast Building Conference (SEBC).

Arden, the “agrihood” in Palm Beach County, was named “Masterplanned Community of the Year,” while its themed recreation center, The Barn, was named “Best Recreational Facility or Amenity.”

Shearwater in St. Augustine was named “Best Community Site Plan.” Arden also received the Silver Award for” Best Single Family Detached Model Home – 3,000 to 3,499 square feet,” and “Best Site Plan.”

The Aurora competition honors the best design trends in the Southeast U.S. The 2019 Aurora Awards included entries in 54 categories for attached and detached housing designs, including interior design, detailing, custom and re-use and renovation work. Also honored are diverse commercial, recreational and specialty buildings, as well as land planning achievements.

Headquartered in Boston, and founded in 2013, Freehold is currently developing eight master plans throughout the United States.

“The Aurora Awards signify the very best in planning, design and development, qualities we continually strive to achieve in our communities,” said Freehold Southeast Division president Andy Smith. “The recognition by these respected industry leaders tops a year of successes and milestones for both Arden and Shearwater. We are extremely honored that they were recognized as the very best from Aurora judges.”

Set on 1,209 acres, Arden includes a mile-long central lake, 20 miles of trails, and 500 acres of parks and open space. The heart of Arden is its community farm, which has received national recognition. Under the direction of two experienced Farm Directors, the Arden Farm celebrates Florida’s agricultural abundance through year-round production, while it brings the community together for healthful events such as tropical fruit tastings, farm-to-table cooking demonstrations, tree planting events and resident volunteer days on the farm.

Earlier this year, Arden unveiled its 4,000-square-foot Barn, which won Aurora’s Grand Award for Best Recreational Facility or Amenity. The Barn is where residents gather for seasonal themed events and workshops on topics from organic gardening to flower arranging. The Barn includes Arden General Store, providing residents a unique experience offering Florida-made goods that prioritize community and environmental impact. These include local and organic vegetables, fruits, coffees, teas, honey, popsicles, ceramics, and natural body care products.

Shearwater is a 1,524-acre, 2,600-lot community with 13 miles of walking trails through 600 acres of preserved habitat, parks, fields, lakes and canoe/kayak access to Trout Creek. Like Arden, Shearwater combines abundant recreational amenities with a wealth of social spaces.

Shearwater’s many recreational amenities – central to its award-winning land plan – include natural open spaces: trails, parks and preserved habitat, including Trout Creek with kayak and canoe access. At the heart of this nature-themed community is the Kayak Club, the inviting hub for all residents. Its many recreational amenities include a resort-style pool with three-story waterslide, a Junior Olympic competition lap pool, and a lazy river, all set within lush landscaping and spacious lounge areas.

Even Shearwater’s homes connect indoors and outdoors. Some floor plans feature multi-slide doors flooding the room with natural light. Other homes offer doors that collapse to create a seamless transition from living room to the spacious outdoors.

Arden “agrihood” earns key certification

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Just in time for Thanksgiving, the five-acre farm at the new Arden community west of Lion Country Safari will sprout eggplant, peppers, okra and other fresh produce.

Farm directors Carmen Franz and Tripp Eldridge expect a November harvest of the crops they planted last month, which also include herbs, flowers and fruit trees.

Those crops will end up on Arden residents’ dinner tables.

Tomato plants and lettuce grow in a shade tunnel in the master-planned Arden community in Loxahatchee. The five-acre working farm recently earned the distinction of Certified Naturally Grown (CNG), meaning that the farm doesn’t use any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or genetically modified seeds, just like certified organic farms. “We’re so excited,” said Franz, who was hired in March along with Eldridge to build Arden’s organic farm. “It’s just fantastic out here.”

Arden, a neighborhood planned by Freehold Communities of Boston, is one of more than 100 throughout the United States — and the only one in South Florida — called an “agrihood,” or agricultural neighborhood.

Developed to promote healthy living and community engagement, Arden eventually will include 2,000 homes that will back up to a community green space, including parks, playfields, greenways, nature trails or lakes.

Nearly 200 of the homes have been sold, an Arden spokesperson said, and new residents are moving in as their homes are being completed.

Franz said those residents are eager to participate in the farming process as well as a variety of garden-related events she and Eldridge host.

Those events will expand to include workshops on organic gardening and flower arranging, healthy cooking classes and farmers markets once the community’s 4,000-square-foot event barn is complete, most likely at the end of the year.

“Arden is meant to be a place to build communities and be a center for health and wellness,” Franz said. “People can be a part of the growing process and eat the food that comes out of the farm.”

The CNG program was designed in 2002 to recognize small-scale farmers who practice sustainable agriculture to produce food for their local communities.

“We’re excited about Certified Naturally Grown,” Eldridge said. “It’s the grassroots alternative to the certified organic label. It fit our farm better than certified organic, which is more suited to retail products sitting on a shelf at Whole Foods. This is more for smaller farmers markets or roadside stands. It fit us better.”

Four Kenco Models to Debut this Fall

A South Florida luxury homebuilder for over 25 years, Kenco Communities is now open for pre-construction sales at Arden, where it is building a showcase of five luxury estate models in the community’s lakefront enclave, a premier location. Kenco’s estates are the largest homes ― situated on the largest lots ― at Arden, a new 1,200-acre, master-planned, gated community in the Wellington area, just west of West Palm Beach.

Kenco’s four, one- and two-story Arden models, ranging from 4,281 square feet to 5,647 square feet, offer four, four or six bedrooms; and three- or four-car garages. The models are available in three architectural styles: Spanish, Coastal and Farmhouse. Available options include a summer kitchen, swimming pool and spa, and the ability to personalize your home.

Four of Kenco’s models ― the Aster, Banyan, Carlton, Davenport― will be open this Fall with the grand opening of Kenco’s sales center.  Kenco’s temporary sales center is currently located onsite at 10976 Fly Rod Run, Wellington, Florida, 33470. To arrange an onsite appointment, contact Kenco Communities at 561.410.5404.

Three Reasons Why Kenco Communities

1. Largest Estate Homes at Arden

2. Direct Lakefront Homes

3. Only Lots Adjacent to the Amenities

Kenco’s homes are located in Arden’s most desired lakefront location, which is adjacent to the community’s impressive amenities, including the soon-to-open two-story clubhouse and two-level resort-style pool, community barn and farm, tennis courts, playing fields, sports courts, event lawn, lakeside pavilion and more.

Arden has 175 acres of navigable lakes.  The only builder that has waterfront homesites is Kenco Communities. The homesites are 80 X 130 feet and up to 80 X 230 feet and the waterfront sites have optional docks.

Arden Welcomes Kenco Communities

Palm Beach County, Fla. (June 1, 2018) –Arden welcomes luxury homebuilder Kenco Communities. The farm is not the only thing growing at Arden – so is the impressive selection of homes. The agrihood on Southern Blvd. in western Palm Beach County has added luxury home developer Kenco Communities to the options available within the 1,200-acre community. Already established with models at Arden are Kennedy Homes LLC, Lennar and Ryan Homes. The new neighborhood designated for Kenco will be located near the clubhouse and amenity center, and feature lots with direct access to the lake.

One of most prestigious real estate companies in the southeast, Boca Raton-based Kenco Communities will offer five single and two-story models at Arden in three architectural styles: Spanish Coastal, Coastal Collage and Farmhouse. All homes will sit on 80-foot lots — the largest in the community – and backup to the lake with the option to have a private dock. The four- to six-bedroom homes will range in size from 4,000 to 5,600 sq. ft. and be priced from $540,000 to $1 million. Kenco plans to have model homes open at Arden in early August of this year.

“Kenco Communities has been a leader in homebuilding for more than 20 years, based on our unmatched reputation for quality and design. We are inspired by Arden’s concept and execution, and we’re proud to offer the largest luxury estate homes along the community’s lake,” said Lorna Swartz, Kenco Communities Sales Director. “Kenco has been involved in some of South Florida’s most admired communities, and Arden is changing the game with its wellness-themed amenities, like the miles of trails community farm, fitness center and mile-long lake.”

Arden will eventually have 2,000 homes—the majority of which will back up to community green space, including parks, playfields, greenways, nature trails or lakes. The scenic property features 20 miles of walking and biking trails; 175 acres of lakes for fishing, kayaking or canoeing; and an expansive great lawn for events. The five-acre parcel will produce fruits, vegetables and herbs under the guidance of two Farm Directors, and feature an event barn where residents can gather for seasonal themed classes, harvest experiences, and more.

The heart of recreational activity at Arden will be the gracious, spacious, two-story Clubhouse, complete with a resort-style pool that flows over two levels. The peaceful upper pool and spa are surrounded by private cabanas for those who want some quiet time, while the lower pool offers water play areas perfectly suited for families. Scheduled to open in Summer 2018, the Clubhouse will offer plenty of separate indoor and outdoor gathering spaces for all ages to enjoy. The upper level will have an inviting Wi-Fi café serving coffees, lattes, juice and grab-and-go food items, including frozen treats; meeting and event rooms; and an outdoor covered patio with a fireplace. The lower level will include a large fitness room and a private exercise studio with Wellbeats™ virtual trainers on demand.

Freehold Communities is the visionary development team behind Arden and is currently developing over 10,000 residential lots in Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, California and Florida.
